Laptops... Spirit... Beauclerc Night...

This week we finished up Theme 1 in Reading and took the Theme 1 Benchmark Test. In Writing we continue to fill up our "Tool Belt" with Idioms, Other words for "said" and more. In Math we took a Unit Test to see if we are ready to more on to our next module. As you can see we have really been busy starting out our 2nd 9 Weeks!

But we still had time for Laptops and Beauclerc Night at Chick-fil-a.

Here are some of the pictures from this week....

Thanks, Yoe and Allyssa, for supporting Beauclerc!

Our Book of the Month

Our book of the Month is a wonderful story to read just before Veteran's Day. It especially has meaning for my generation.... who lived through the Vietnam War and lost friends and classmates. Ask your child about this beautiful book that makes us stop... think... and appreciate what others have sacrificed for our freedom!

Our Next Read Aloud

We finally finished "Firegirl"... I think there were a few teary eyes at the end. It had quite a lesson about standing up for what you know and feel in your heart is right! The main character, Tom, did that by being friends with Jessica when all the other students in his class shunned her. Ask you child about this moving novel...

Tomorrow we start our next read aloud, "The Christmas Spurs" by Bill Wallace. My goal is to finish this one before the holiday break.

Bitter-Sweet Week...

We've had many fun learning activities this week, even one with "Fruit Loops" for molecules of Matter! But unfortunately we have had to say good-bye to Lillian and Kendis. We wish them luck in their new "adventures" but we will miss them.

In Reading, we read two short passages and practiced the skill of comparing and contrasting. We did partner reading when we read "Junebug" but the Parrots said they really like it when we all read together!

In Writing, we are discussing "Dialogue" and the conventions used in dialogue. I am impressed with how well they are using those conventions. Today we started a new piece with dialogue.

In Math, we made our "Multiples" Book, as we continue to work on multiples and factors.

We finished our unit in Social Studies and are starting our Science Unit on "Matter". Tuesday our room smelled like Fruit Loops as we made posters with the elements of Solids, Liquids, and Gases.... check out our bulletin board in the 4th Grade hallway.

Hope you have a great weekend.... Love you... Mrs. P and Mrs. G
