4th Grade News...
We have been very busy in class this week!
In writing we have been working on developing complex characters in our narrative writing. We are doing this through the use of the dialogue of the complex character or other characters. Most especially though we are using "actions" of the character to demonstrate their personality traits. Ms. West came in and observed our writing lesson on Wednesday. She told me you were "wonderful" students and very "engaged" in your writing. It is exciting to see how many amazing and interesting characters are in our stories.
In addition to our normal writing...we were given an opportunity to enter a Times Union Writing Contest. Mackenzie was the entry for the Ryan/Ross/Peck class. Good luck Mackenzie!!!
In reading we started our next theme...our skill is "Sequence". Our selection is a true story. It is about a migrant boy who came to "LOVE" reading with the help of a special librarian. He went on to become an author himself! Our strategy for this month is "Visualizing". It's like making a "movie" in your mind as you read.
Looking forward to another great week...
Love you all...Mrs. P

5th Grade News...
What a busy week!!! Every student has worked very hard on their "Living Museum" research, report, and backboard. We have quite a variety of famous people to share. We had 42 students, 3 teachers, research information, pictures, backboards, and "buttons" all over Rm 71, Rm 73, and the courtyard. Everyone worked cooperatively and we have just about every backboard done. Some students even worked on them at lunch and after school. I'm really proud of the students in Rm 71 & 73!!!
Because of the work done on the Living Museum this past week, we are going to strrretch our story and skill into this next week. Our skill is Main Idea and Supporting Details. This is an important skill in reading comprehension. Mr. G will also be completing his Genre Study on the Holocaust. We should start reading "Number the Stars" this week.
Looking forward to another great week...Mrs. P

Congrats, Mr. G, on the Boston College win over FSU. The best team did win...but I'm proud of how hard the FSU players played...they never gave up! It was a cold night for football. Mr. Peck and I are still thawing out!!!
