What a wonderful week!

This was a busy week for the Gaspard/Peck Parrots. We completed our first story in our reading series... we are well into our first novel, "Because of Winn Dixie"... math was really interesting... the parrots are becoming phenomenal writers... we are becoming "Rocks & Minerals" experts... and we ended our week with our first "Reading Celebration" with FOOTBALL FRIDAY!

Reading Celebration...

Our Reading Celebration to kick off our "RUN" to the 25 Book Standard is this Friday. The theme ties NFL Football and Healthy Habits. We have decided to make Friday's lunch a Tailgate! Mrs. G and Mrs. P are providing all beef hot dogs, nutritious baked beans, chips and drinks. If any parents would like to send in "finger" treats that would be great! Just let us know.

Well... the Gaspard/Peck parrots finally filled up the pan with 1 dozen "Good Class Behavior" goodies! Sooooooo there will be chocolate chip cookies for the class tomorrow. Way to go "Parrots"!

Week 2 in Parrot-Dise...

Can't believe we finished our 2nd week together. We have accomplished so much in our short amount of time together...

In Math we are still working on Numeration. We are beginning to work on ordering and comparing numbers. This week we are working on the 3 X tables by talking about multiples of 3 on the hundreds chart.

In Writing we are continuing to discuss different types of Engaging Beginnings. Mrs. Peck has modeled some beginnings with hilarious stories about her sister. The parrots are doing a great job of practicing these skills.

In Reading we continued to discuss our strategy of making connections. Mrs. Gay has had some awesome connections to share. Our skill for this week's story is "Story Structure"... what does it take to make a good story... Setting... Character... Plot... and Solution. We have applied this skill to both our selection story and our novel. Yes! we started our novel this week. We are reading "Because of Winn Dixie". The Parrots seem to really enjoy reading a novel together.

In Social Studies we finished this first unit on Florida and took our first test.... the results were out of this world! We also began our first Science Module on "Rocks & Minerals".

Friday was "Laptop" Day and we worked on reinforcing our Numeration skills and our Story Structure skills on Destination Success.

This Friday was also "Shopping" Day for the Parrots who had sufficient funds in their Bank of Parrot-Dise Account....
