4th Grade News.....

Now that the FCAT Writing Test is over, we have been busy working on our final preparation for the FCAT Reading and Math. This week we took a Practice FCAT test made up of released items from previous FCAT Tests and the DOE Test Specs from the "new" FCAT 2.0. Next week we will go through each item and discuss the skills and strategies for answering each question. In Math, Mrs. Gaspard also been working on the new test spec items. She is also using Destination Success to help us review our skills. We have been very busy this week so we will be well prepared for the test in April.

5th Grade News.....

This week we have merged FCAT prep with some fun reading. We are just about finished with "Shredderman", a light hearted novel that's has really made us laugh. This novel has been so entertaining... I'd say that is the Author's Purpose! We also did some practicing for the FCAT Reading and Math Test. Mr. G merged a released sample FCAT Reading Test and the DOE Test Specs for the new FCAT 2.0. We simulated the testing conditions for the FCAT and took it. Next week we will go through each item and discuss the skills and strategies needed to answer each question.

Mrs. Goodman has also been working on the Math Test Specs and Problems of the Day to give us practice on the strands covered on the Math FCAT. We've been working on Points on a Grid, Geometry, and will be covering Measurement soon. The Apes WILL be ready for the test in April!

4th Grade News.....

We're done! All the MGN Studio Kids give a thumbs up to the FCAT Writing Assessment. Everyone came to school Tuesday with their Writing Toolbelt on and did a great job on the test. You were awesome! Now we will really put all our effort into Reading and Math, on our way to the April Reading and Math FCAT.

Mrs. Gaspard found some really neat Bill Nye videos on Measurement and we have been very busy working on Decimals... Percentages are just around the corner...

Let's talk about Measurement.....

5th Grade News.....
Even though we are only half way through the week.. it seems like we have accomplished so much. In Reading we finished "Freak the Mighty". This is the first year Mr. G and I read this book with our class... it was a powerful novel. Even though Max and Kevin only knew each other about 1 year... it was like it was a lifetime of memories and experiences. We talked this afternoon how even though Kevin's life was far too short, it was richer than most peoples' lives. It was the quality of Kevin's life not the quantity that really mattered. Tomorrow we start our next novel, one from the Shredderman series. This one will be a little more light hearted.

A lot of hands-on learning has been going on in Science. We are discussing, Matter, Changes in Matter, and Density of Matter. It's really been fun and interesting.
