4th Grade News....

We have really been busy in Rm 131... Reading, Writing, & Fractions... Oh My! We are well on our way to the FCAT Writing Assessment. This week a "Stop Light" appeared in our room! We are using it to help us pace ourselves on the writing test. We are becoming experts in identifying Narrative and Expository prompts. We have already written to 2 Narrative prompts and some have conferenced with Mrs. Peck. In reading we are continuing to talk about our skill sequence.

In Math, we have started "Fractions". There has been a lot of "HANDS ON" work with our fraction strips and circles. Today we went on Destination Success and did the tutorial to prepare us to work on our own when we get our classroom laptops. This has been a busy week filled with fun and learning.

Have a wonderful long weekend.... Love you... Mrs. P

5th Grade News.....

Another great week in Rm 71 & Rm 73... the Apes are definitely Cause & Effect experts. Each day we practiced making up our own personal Cause & Effect statements. There are so many events going on in "Milkweed" right now that it was the perfect tool for teaching and reinforcing this reading skill. It's hard to believe that we are almost finished with "Milkweed". I know some of you don't want to finish it... but we have another novel waiting for us that will help us complete the three stages of the Holocaust.

Thank you, Mrs. Hartley, for coming in and giving us some expert advice on writing a Response to Literature. The Apes are writing a response to the book, "The Children We Remember". I loved Gavin's beginning... can't wait to read your feelings about this book.

Room 73 also has a lot of fun learning going on... Mrs. Goodman's Smart Board is awesome! It can be used for so many things. The Apes were using it yesterday to practice their multiplication. In Science, we did experiments to demonstrate different kinds of energy. With the use of a ruler and a book as a ramp, the Apes investigated potential and kinetic energy. I love sharing all this learning with the Apes!

Have a great L-O-N-G weekend. Love you..... Mrs. P

Mr. G shared another wonderful Holocaust novel, "Grandfather's Tatoo"...

5th Grade News.....

What a great week with the Apes in Rm 71 & 73! It was as if we were never on break. We jumped right back into "Milkweed". I could tell the Apes couldn't wait to get back to reading. In fact I actually heard sighs when we had to stop reading today. Our skill this week is Author's Viewpoint, and our story is about Paul Revere. Be sure to be ready for your selection test tomorrow...

There's been a lot of "Fraction Fun" going on in Rm 73... Believe it or not using "beans", "fraction cubes" and the "Smart Board" are helping the Apes learn equivalent fraction, and adding fractions with unlike denominators.... Who would have thought Fractions could be so much fun?

It's been awesome this week... have a great weekend... Love you... Mrs.P

4th Grade News...

WOW! What a great first week back. We jumped right back into our work. In reading we are starting a new story. The new vocabulary went home on Tuesday. The skill for this story is Sequence.

We have also spent a lot of time talking about "FCAT" type writing. We are discussing the two types of prompts and how to "dissect" the prompt and determine which type we may get. Today we discussed one of many ways to plan our writing. Mrs. Peck (ME) pretended to be a 4th Grade student the day of the FCAT Writing Assessment. I planned and wrote to a Narrative prompt. Then we looked at each paragraph and evaluated the writing piece. PJ came up with some awesome ideas to revise a "weak" paragraph. Way to go PJ!

Today was Laptop Day and after Literacy we worked on IXL in the Multiplication Unit.

Great Week MGN Kids..... You deserve a great weekend... Love you... Mrs. P

The Birthday Girls..... Mischico & Myasia...

We LOVE Laptop Day.....

Kenadi gives the "thumbs up" because she got the problem right!

Holiday Break is over...

It's kind of sad when the holiday break is over and all our decorations have to be put away... but what makes it all OK is that it means I will be headed back to school tomorrow and get to see my 4th and 5th graders. In 4th grade we will start a new story and really start to talk about FCAT type writing. In 5th grade we will continue with Milkweed and see how Janina and Misha develop as conditions become more drastic in the ghetto.

Time to pack everything away.....

Good-bye Tree Angel till next year.....

Looks like Gibby & The Pickle say good-bye.....

Everything sure looks plain.....

The best part for 5th Graders is getting back to "Milkweed".....
