Student Council Project

Please help support Student Council with their wonderful service project. This project is close to my heart... Mr. Peck served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. I know many Beauclerc students have friends and relatives that are now serving in the Middle East. These men and women are dedicated to serving us... now we have a chance to do something for them. Let's show them how much Beauclerc cares.....

Our student council President and Vice President kick off our drive.....

5th Grade News.....

It was a very short week but a lot went on with the Apes. Mr. G has just about finished his Holocaust Study and we are finally ready to start our first Holocaust novel. We are going to read, "Number the Stars" by Lois Lowry. It takes place in Denmark, where the Danes just considered the Jews their countrymen. They, unlike other countries, "saved" their Jews. This story is about two girls, one Christian and one Jewish, who are best friends. The Christian family risks everything to save their Jewish friends. I don't want to tell you any more.... you'll just have to wait and see.

Mrs. Hartless was demonstrating revolution, rotation, and discussing what causes the seasons. It was fun to see Robby be the earth revolving around Mrs. H, the sun. Then William was the sun while Mrs. H was the earth. Who thought science could be so "Hands-On"!

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow.....

4th Grade News.....

We had our Vocabulary Test on Wednesday and I checked them coming back from Tallahassee. Most everyone did very well. We will spend a little more time this week on our skill and then you will have the Selection Test on "By the Shores of Silver Lake".

In Math Mrs. Gaspard continues to work on Arrays. On Wednesday she made math not only "FUN" but also "TASTY"! given an array of one section of cookies, everyone had to Estimate how may cookies were in the package. There were some great strategies used to come up with our estimates. And.... of course we ate the cookies when we were finished!

Hope you had a restful weekend.... looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.....

Here is the package...

The only info we have is the array of one of the sections...

Edwin makes his estimate...

So does Devon...

Tony, too.....

And Abey...

PJ comes up and shares his strategy with the class

A sad Goodbye to some AWESOME 4th & 5th Graders....

Hate to see you go... good luck... we will miss you...

JT and Cierra are headed to Texas...

Meagan is headed to Englewood Elementary...

4th Grade News.....
Our new skill in Reading is "Noting Details". We did an awesome lesson on our skill and introduced our new vocabulary. Our next story is "By the Shores of Silver Lake". It's a Laura Ingalls Wilder story. I loved to watch Little House On the Prairie when I was younger. I was surprised how many 4th Graders had never heard of this TV show.

Math was really fun this week. We started Arrays.... Mrs. Gaspard gave the students some "Hands On" experience making arrays...

See you Monday...

Love you... Mrs. P

Making our own Math "Brain Teasers"...

5th Grade News.....

Didn't take many pictures this week but there was a lot of learning going on. Mr. G is winding up his Holocaust Background Study. The Nazis are finally "running" right into the Americans"s "arms". Mr. G had a great discussion on why the Germans would rather surrender to the Americans rather than the Russians. Then we ended with a great video of the WELCOME the Americans got as then entered Paris... made me proud to be an American! A few more days and we should be ready to start our first Holocaust novel, "Number the Stars". Can't wait to get back to reading our novels. They will be much more meaningful with the background that Mr. G has given.

Didn't take any pictures, but Mrs. H is working on Factor Trees. It's a great way to break down a large number. From the picture on her blog, looks like understanding the birth of our governmental system is next on the agenda in Social Studies. Perfect timing with the recent election!

Looking forward to a "short" week with you all....

Love you.... Mrs. P
