Reading Celebration... Parade... & Book Fair...

Today was a busy day at Beauclerc. We kicked off our Reading Program with a school-wide parade. The Apes featured "Crash" with the girls as Jane Forbes and the boys as Crash. MGN Studio Kids featured "Men in Black"... Didn't they look awesome in their ties and Sunglasses??? The Apes also spent some time at the Book Fair today. Wonder what's in store for us tomorrow?

Great Game.....

Mrs. P went to the FSU-Samford Game on Saturday. Mr. P and I met at FSU many (too many to tell) years ago. After the Air Force we moved back to Tallahassee where we lived for about 8 years. During that time we started buying season tickets to the FSU football games. We have watched the Seminoles play through good times and bad. It was very exciting to watch the game this weekend. This is a "New Era" under our new head coach Jimbo Fisher.

5th Graders.....

I made so many connections to our novel we are reading... "Crash".

There were male cheerleaders, star running backs, our opponent was out-matched, but our classy coach only played the first string for the first half, then he put in the second and third string players. The big difference was that no ONE player did it all. There were many players that made great plays and they really played as a team. Remember what Mr. G said about great teams have players that put TEAM first and not their own notoriety. This Saturday I was proud to say I am a Seminole.

Here are some photos from the game.... and some internet photos...

4th Grade News.....

We had a great week in 4th Grade. I have a small group of Mrs. Lambs students that I work with in Writing one day a week. They worked very hard on their District September prompt. I know they will be great writers by the FCAT Writing Test.

In MGN Studios aka Mrs. Gaspard & Nelson's room, we have had a busy week.

In reading, we are working on the skill of "Story Structure". We reconstructed our first selection story "Akiak" using our Story Map. Next week we will put our skill to the "test" with a stand alone passage.

In math, we are still working on Numeration. I can see the wheels turning and the lights coming on.... Mrs. Gaspard's GIGANTIC chart really helps us to visualize each place up to the hundred millions.

In science, we had some fun today talking about matter and how sound moves through different forms of matter.... can you imagine 4th Graders becoming "Solid", "Liquid", and "Gas"? We have fun while we are learning....

Looking forward to another great week with the MGN Studio kids!

Love you..... Mrs. P

5th Grade News.....

We are having another awesome week in 5th Grade.

In reading our skill is Text Organization. We had a wonderful discussion on how Fiction and Non-Fiction texts are organized differently. We also assigned partners for reading when Mr. G and I take our Guided Reading Groups. I was sooooo impressed at how everyone did such a great job staying on task and reading with their partners.

In Math we are still working on multiplication and writing our OWN story problems. We have discussed how we can use "Clustering" to solve multiplication problems. We also worked on Number Towers, making multiples of a number.

In Science Mrs. H is working on Aqua-Terra-Columns. Who ever thought Eco-systems could be so much fun.

It's G-R-E-A-T to spend time in Rm 71 & 73!

Love you....... Mrs. P
