5th Grade News.....

In Reading our skill for this week is Author's Purpose... Why do authors write? We also finished "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas". What a book for life lessons. Can you think of other "fences" people put up????? Yes, they do exist.

In Writing we are going to start on Report Writing. With all the background information Mr. G and our novels have given us, we will be able to write an awesome report on the Treaty of Versailles.

A big thank you goes out to our wonderful PTA and the coaches. Our Fun Run was great. What a beautiful day! Then we did a little reading and those who have met their goal enjoyed a little popcorn and a good movie.

Love you...... Mrs. P

We will miss you... Ms. Harris.....

I'm sure most of you know by now that Ms. Harris passed away suddenly during the night, Friday. So many of our teachers joined together today to celebrate her life and the many children's lives she has touched over her years of teaching. When I went looking for a picture of her....... there weren't many because she never like to have her picture taken. But, the one I liked best.... and symbolized what she was all about was this one. One thing Ms. Harris did was bring "American Grandstand" to the 5th Graders at Beauclerc. What a way for 5th Graders to end their last year at Beauclerc! Thank you Ms. Harris.... you will always be a part of Beauclerc

4th Grade News.....

We've been very busy in Reading, Writing, and Math this week. After the Holiday break we decided to read a novel together as a class and in our Reading Club groups. We chose a true favorite of 4th Graders.... "Because of Winn Dixie". Don't you love Opal? She is such a determined character, and Winn Dixie is also a major character. Don't you feel like he is "human"? This novel has been so awesome for practicing our strategy of "Inference". We should finish the novel early next week and then take the A/R test.

In Writing, we have been working diligently on our Expository Writing. Today we conferenced with either a teacher or most of us did Peer Conferencing. We are working on using all those wonderful techniques we put in our Narratives in our Expository Writing. Expository writing doesn't have to be B-O-R-I-N-G.....

Have a great weekend.... come back ready to finish our novel and continue to make our writing better.

Love you...... Mrs. P
