4th Grade News.....

We've been busy this week. We started with a field trip to UNF to see the Slim Goodbody show. It was awesome! It is a good way to bring our Human Body Unit together. Do you know all the body systems?????

In Reading we have started our new unit. Our skill for the first story is Sequence. Mrs. Ryan read a picture book out of sequence and it didn't take very long for the Ry/Ro's to figure it out! We are really starting to get into writing context sentences with our vocabulary words. Our Book Clubs are on their second novel. Everyone seems really excited to meet with their group.

In Writing, we talked about using Transition Words to "Sequence" our story and move it along. We are just finishing our second published writing. Our goal was to have an engaging beginning, dialogue, and use three of the crafts that have been taught. Our writing tool belt is really filling up!

Have a great weekend.

Love you..... Mrs. P

4th Grade News.....

In Reading we are finishing up "connecting" our two short passages. We will take our selection test tomorrow. We also started our Book Clubs this week. Each group is reading the same novel on their level and discussing it. I have heard such positive feedback from our students and parents. Great idea Mrs. Ryan and Mrs. Ross!!!! We have also been discussing using context clues to figure out new vocabulary words. We have worked on composing our own meaningful sentences. Today we worked with a partner and wrote sentences with our vocabulary words. Kindergarten and 1st grade students, Andrew, Ethan, and Luke, came over to our classroom and used our sentences to figure the meaning of 4th grade words. Our sentences were awesome!!!!!

In Writing, we are working on publishing our next piece of writing. We have spent several days working on the "REVISING" step in our writing process. We know this is what makes our writing better. Today we discussed how R-E-V-I-S-I-N-G is the L-O-N-G-E-S-T and most important part of the Writing Process. Our writing has grown so much since August. Keep up the hard work!!!!!

Have a great weekend.....

Love you..... Mrs. P

5th Grade News.....

Well, this week was more back to a normal routine. Our Reading skill is "Character" and boy have we met some great characters in "Number the Stars"... Annemarie, Ellen, Mrs. Rosen, Mrs. Johansen....just to name a few. We can infer sooooo much about these characters just by their actions and dialogue. We love to go on "Treasure Hunts" through the chapters we read with our partners, and search for the answers to Mr. G's questions. I was so impressed at how well the Apes and Heroes put their heads together and work cooperatively to dig into the novel for those "Treasures"!

Mr. G and I also had awesome Guided Reading groups. It is great to take time to meet with students and hear you read and figure out what is going on in "Number the Stars." Our novel is really coming to a pivotal point in the plot. Today when it was time to stop reading, my group didn't want to close their books. It's great to see students love to read!!!!!

Have a great weekend.....

Love you..... Mrs. P
