4th Grade News.....

What a crazy week! I had to give my 5th graders the MAP test so I didn't see my 4th graders one day! But we managed to get back into our routine by the middle of the week.

In Reading, our skill is "Graphic Sources". We discussed how you especially see many graphic sources in non-fiction reading. We went on a "HUNT" for various types of graphic sources. Ask your child to tell you some of the ones we found. Our story this week is very interesting. It is about the sinking of the Titanic and the effort to find the wreckage.

In Writing, we have started to discuss different crafts "good" writers put in their writing. Good writers put sensory details in their writing so the reader can "see", "hear", "feel", "touch", and yes, even "taste" what their are reading. We read two excellent pieces of children's literature that demonstrate this craft. Now WE need to use it in our writing!

In Science, we continue to work on our Human Body Unit. Of course, Mrs. Ryan and Mrs. Ross used FOOD to help us connect to what we are studying. I think Science is delicious!

5th Grade News......

We have had a busy week.... we started with MAP testing (Art, Music, & P.E.).

In Writing, we are well into our Scary Stories. They should be finished soon!

In Reading, we are loving "Maniac Magee". This week we met "Grayson" Maniac's new family. Once again, Maniac has made a difference in someone's life. Today we read about Grayson and Maniac dancing the Polka. I can remember learning to dance the polka when I was your age. So... of course Mr. G just happened to have some Polka music....and I just had to dance! I LOVE Maniac.....he is such a special person. Where will he go next?????? We will find out next week.

I was so excited that I was able to get some Science pictures... I know Mrs. Hartless makes science fun!
