5th Grade News.....

Our second week together was even better than the first one! This week we discussed our first skill in our reading series...Sequence... after making a poster and practicing with a leveled practice, we were ready for our selection test. Your performance was awesome!

Of course, we continued reading "Crash". This week we met our partners and did some partner reading while Mr. G and Mr. P read with some guided reading groups. I was sooooo impressed at how well everyone did with their partner, especially working on our first "Treasure Hunt". We finally found out who "Scooter" is... he is not just a grandfather...he is someone Abby and Crash can confide in. Do you have someone like that? Can you make a connection?

In writing, we started our first narrative...our "Scary" Stories. Mr. G talked about "hooking" the reader. There certainly were some BIG hooks shared!

Hope you are having a great weekend....

Love you.... Mrs. P

It seems everyone/everything in Rm 71 loves to read "Crash".....

Finally.....

I finally got my extra photo storage... so I'm back to blogging! Check out our AWESOME first week together.....
5th Grade News.....

It was sooooooo great to see some "old" faces from last year's Ry/Ro class... but even better to meet my new 5th grade students. I already know this is going to be a fantastic year!

In Reading we discussed our first reading strategy, Making Connections. Ask your child about the three different kinds. We are already into our first novel, "Crash" by Jerry Spinelli. Just this week we have met many different characters. On Friday, Crash met JANE FORBES... He thinks she is a "Goddess". She really has made an impression on him. Can some of you boys make a connection?????? Of course we all love Penn... he may be naiive but he sure is "lovable". Can't wait to see who we meet next.....

I was lucky enough to work with Mrs. Hartless in Math this week. She is working on volume. Unfortunately, I won't be helping with Math any more. But lucky for you, Mrs. Gay (in the morning) and Ms. Davoli (in the afternoon) will be helping Mrs. Hartless. You will have to let me know what you are doing when you come into Mr. G's room.

I think you Apes and Heroes are awesome. We are going to have a phenomenal year.

Love you, Mrs. P
