Thank you...
Thank you...
Thank you...

What an awesome day you all shared with me. Thank you boys and girls for making my birthday special. I want you to know I read each and every one of your cards again when I got home. It would not have been the same if I had not shared my birthday with you. I love coming to school each and every day because I get to share it with you. When you are my age you miss having children at home... but I am fortunate to have you in my life each and every day. I feel really blessed....

Thank you Mrs. Ryan, Mrs. Ross, Mrs. Santiago, Mrs. Whitlaw, Mrs. Wood, Mrs. Walker, and Mr. Gibbons (aka Mr. Gherkin). I love you guys...

4th Grade News...

In reading this week we are reading two selections... the skill is Compare/Contrast... today we read about Eleanor Roosevelt and Amelia Earhart... two amazing women who were both "alike" and "different". Tomorrow we read about Duke Ellington... the king of jazz.

Next Tuesday is the FCAT Writing Assessment. On Thursday and Friday we will practice for the test in the format we will see on the actual test. We are soooo prepared that Tuesday will be a "breeze". I am so proud of all of you... your writing has improved so much. You are READY!!!

5th Grade News...

This week we started on the Response to Literature Standard. We are writing a response to "Milkweed". This genre of writing is different than Narrative or Report Writing. As 5th graders our response no longer consists of a lengthy summary of a book. Instead we are making judgments (opinions) about the novel, characters, author etc. Whatever our judgment may be... we have to support with examples from the book. So far we have written our introduction with an engaging beginning and our first judgment. We have shared these with both classes... sometimes our peers are our best models...

We are continuing to read "Jim Ugly". This novel really lends itself to the practice of the strategy of "Questioning". We have many questions about Jake and his father. Today, Jake began to change his feelings about Jim Ugly... where will this lead???

Sorry I can't go on the field trip to UNF Friday... This is a critical time for my 4th graders... we have the FCAT Writing Assessment coming up next Tuesday... but I'll be with you for the Marine Science Center.

Can't wait to hear about your field trip adventures...

Love you... Mrs. P
