4th Grade News

We certainly have had a busy week! We finished our Genre Study on "Mysteries", took our Theme Benchmark Test, worked on Landmark in the Thousands, and went to see "Slim Goodbody" at UNF.

Our field trip to UNF was awesome. Slim Goodbody taught us about all of the systems of the body and how important it is to take care of our body because it's the only one we have. Which body system do you think is the most interesting??? Did you share some info with your parents??? Kristen and Mackenzie were chosen to go up on the stage and demonstrate using "MUSCLES"! Wow!

Our writing toolbelt is really getting full! This next week we will be focusing on Character Development, especially through dialogue and action. What intriguing character will you write about???

Looking forward to this week...Mrs. P

We have had a busy week! We learned about "Predicting" in our reading this week. We are winding up our Genre Study of World War I, World War II, and the Holocaust. This week Mr. G began to talk about the Holocaust. This will be great background knowledge for our next novels. I can see in your faces and eyes the realization of what was beginning to happen in the world at this sad time in our history. There's even more to come...

Everyone has been working very hard on their "Museum" report. I can't wait to "push" your button and see what you have to say about your famous person. I wonder how many of you have decided to participate in the Times Union Writing Contest...let's show the T U what good writers we have at Beauclerc!

Looking Forward to this next week... Mrs. P

PS...Mr. G...
What's going to happen on Friday??????
Mrs. Peck...Can you help us with science???

We had a wonderful week learning about story structure and taking notes for our Genre Study of World War I, World War II, and the Holocaust. I am so impressed with how all you students are listening and taking notes.

However, the highlight of the week was Mr. G's birthday. All of you students and parents made his birthday a special one. Thank you to all the parents who helped and a special thank you to Mrs. Zinn for the posters of the novels we have read and will read this year. They really meant so much to Mr. G.

Enjoy some pictures, especially the one of Mrs. Peck in her rocking chair!

Looking forward to next week!

Love ya...Mrs. P

We have had a very busy week!

In reading we have continued our study of comparing and connecting selections. This was a challenging skill but we rose to the occasion. This week we will be working on our Genre Study..."Mysteries" (Mrs. Peck's favorite genre of reading). At the end of the week we will culminate our first Unit/Theme in reading with our Benchmark Test.
In writing we covered several crafts this week. More work on Similes, Dialogue, Personfication, and using Transitions in our writing. Our Writing Tool Belt is really getting "full"!

With heavy hearts we say good-bye to Mikayla...she is moving to another school in Duval County. We will miss you....keep in touch...keep checking the blog so you know what we are up to.

Love ya

Mrs. P

4th Grade News...

In Reading, we are working on the skill of Compare/Contrast. We are reading two selections and this next week we will be discussing how they are "Alike" (compare) and "Different" (contrast). We are also working on improving our written responses in reading, social studies, and science.

In Writing, Mrs. Peck and Mrs. Ross "entertained" us with a skit called "Simile City" and the book, "The Cowboy and the Blackeyed Pea". We laughed a lot...but we sure know what a "Simile" is now. Then we went on a "Simile Search" with a partner. Now we are ready to put those similes to work in our writing. Simile City... here we come!!!
