Lot's of activities this short week...

We had our Reading Celebration on Tuesday. 100% of Rm 131 read their 7 books! Now we have to start working on 7 more for our 2nd 9 Weeks. We have purchased Accelerated Reading, and as soon as the classes are put into the system we will no longer be doing summaries. When a book is read the students will take an A/R test instead.

Our field trip to the Symphony was great. The parrots were on the best symphony behavior. Thank you Mrs. Laymon for arranging this for us.

Monday we will be having our End of the 9 Weeks Pizza Lunch! All students who read their 7 books and had an A or B in conduct will be eating with Mrs. G and Mrs. P!

We had to say good-bye to Ryan on Thursday... Hope you enjoy your new school, Greenland Pines. Be sure to stay in touch...

Mrs. G and I worked hard on Planning Day and are excited about our 2nd 9 Weeks together. It seems Chaos went shopping and left you some goodies...

4th Grade is "Awesome"....

Tonight was our Parent Curriculum Night for Reading and Writing. The Writing portion was done by our very own 4th Graders. I was soooo proud of them and the great job they did presenting. Three of the presenters were "Parrots"! Here are some pictures form tonight.....

What a fun-filled week in Rm 131...

In Reading we are well into our next novel, "Junebug and the Reverand". We contrasted two of our characters, Junebug and Tasha... they are quite different. We have also made many connections between this novel and "Because of Winn Dixie". We have been working on determining what details in a story are important and really help to develop the plot.

In Writing we S-T-R-E-T-C-H-E-D out similes and also learned about metaphors and how they are different from similes. We had another Writing Craft Play... "The Meta-4 News". Allyssa, Asmir, and Jershod did a great job with their character parts.

In Math we are learning how to "break down" big numbers to make it easier to multiply them. It's so awesome to see the "light bulbs" come on when the kids finally GET IT!

We are back at Social Studies working on learning more interesting facts about our Sunshine State.

On the extra curricular side we had Student Council Elections this morning. Aliyah and Douglas cast our ballots.... we should know the results on Monday morning.

Thank you PTA, Coach, and special visitor Mr. Gonzalez for the wonderful Fun Run. It was a beautiful day for our activity. We culminated it by making Get Well cards for Mrs. West and Holiday Cards for our men and women fighting for our freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan.
