Don't Forget.....

Thursday 9/1 is Open House for 4th Grade. There is a General Meeting in the Media Center at 6:00 and then come on down to the classroom (Rm 131) at 6:30. We can't wait to see you and share what has been going on in "Parrot-Dise" the last week.

Awesome 1st Week!

It was so great to welcome everyone to Room 131... "Parrot-Dise"! We had such a wonderful week. We started out "Getting to Know" each other with a fun activity. It was amazing to find out how much we had in common and how we were different.

In Social Studies, we began our Study of "Florida" with our Social Studies News. Even Mrs. G and Mrs. P learned some new facts about Florida. Ask the Parrots what interesting facts they have learned about our state.

In Reading, we talked about our first reading strategy of "Making Connections". "Fly Away Home" was a great example of a Text to World Connection about the homeless. Then all week we were constantly making connections as we read and were read to. We also discussed the different genres of literature. We went on an "hunt" looking for the elements that make non-fiction different from fiction. We started our first Read Aloud novel, "Firegirl"... we have made some great inferences about the character traits of the main character... we can't wait to see if they are correct.

In Writing, we did our baseline Narrative prompt and have begun to talk about different "Engaging Beginnings". We have some unbelievable "Parrot" authors in Rm 131!

In Math we started our Module on Place Value.... we'll be working up to "Millions"! Nothing like hand-on activities to help us grasp the concept!

We ended our week with a Parrot-Naming contest for the TALKING Parrot Djani gave us... and the winner is... "Chaos! Wonder Why????? We also celebrated Kayla's birthday... thanks for the delicious cupcakes!

And "?" makes 32!!!

We had a new member join our class today, thanks to Djani! He's quite talkative. Your Language homework is to think of a name for him/her. We'll vote tomorrow and he will finally have a name!

It was wonderful to meet so many of you and your parents on Friday at Orientation! We are going to have an AWESOME year together. After a few hours at school yesterday, Parrot-Dise is ready and waiting for YOU! Can't wait to see you tomorrow morning and start our year together!

Metamorphosis.....

Well... after 5 awesome years of working with Mr. G, Mrs. Peck is moving to Rm 131 and will be co-teaching with Mrs. Gaspard. I am excited about having my own kids, classroom, and the opportunity to work with Mrs. Gaspard... no more traveling and cart for me! I will miss working with you, Mr. G, but I am bringing many of the "Ape" traditions with me... they will just become "Parrot" traditions! Mrs. Gaspard and I have spent MANY days at Beauclerc this summer getting things ready for our new Student Parrots. We are looking forward to meeting you and starting our awesome year together..... Here are some of the pictures of our hard work.
