Finally.....

I finally got my extra photo storage... so I'm back to blogging! Check out our AWESOME first week together.....
5th Grade News.....

It was sooooooo great to see some "old" faces from last year's Ry/Ro class... but even better to meet my new 5th grade students. I already know this is going to be a fantastic year!

In Reading we discussed our first reading strategy, Making Connections. Ask your child about the three different kinds. We are already into our first novel, "Crash" by Jerry Spinelli. Just this week we have met many different characters. On Friday, Crash met JANE FORBES... He thinks she is a "Goddess". She really has made an impression on him. Can some of you boys make a connection?????? Of course we all love Penn... he may be naiive but he sure is "lovable". Can't wait to see who we meet next.....

I was lucky enough to work with Mrs. Hartless in Math this week. She is working on volume. Unfortunately, I won't be helping with Math any more. But lucky for you, Mrs. Gay (in the morning) and Ms. Davoli (in the afternoon) will be helping Mrs. Hartless. You will have to let me know what you are doing when you come into Mr. G's room.

I think you Apes and Heroes are awesome. We are going to have a phenomenal year.

Love you, Mrs. P

4th Grade News.....

I love my 4th grade students..... You are AWESOME! This week we got right into learning. In writing we did our baseline writing, discussed the rituals and routines of Writers' Workshop, and started talking about different types of "Engaging Beginnings'" that good writers use. I can already tell the Ry/Ro's are going to be great writers.

In Reading we discussed our first strategy, Connections. We discussed Reading Genres... some students even came up with some Genres I hadn't even thought about. We have picked out our independent reading books and have already started to practice our strategies.

In Math we are working on place value and graphing. I didn't realize math could be so much fun and DELICIOUS!

I am sooooo excited to have you for students. This year can only get better.

Love you, Mrs. P

We're ready and waiting......

All we need are our students.....

Days Are Flying By...

Sorry I haven't been able to post any photos....I ran out of "Storage".... I guess that means I post too many pictures!!!

I have purchased more photo storage and should be able to post the photos I have taken in 24 hours. Nonetheless...we have accomplished so much in just 3 days.

4th Grade has begun Reader's and Writer's Workshops. We have discussed and are practicing the strategy of Making Connections. You were awesome listeners when I did a Read Aloud of "The Memory Box". We made all three kinds of connections. In writing we got our Writing Notebooks and did our Baseline Writing today. Looks like the Ry/Ro's are going to be wonderful writers. In Math we are working on Place Value with manipulatives so we can thoroughly understand what "regrouping" really means. We are also working on cooperative learning in small groups. Mrs. Ross and Mrs. Ryan are awesome Math teachers.

5th Grade has also talked about the strategy of Making Connections. Best of all...we started our first novel in our Jerry Spinelli author study. We are reading "Crash". We have already met three key characters, Crash, Penn, and Abby. We love to hear Mr. G read the part of Penn. He sure can make novels "Come Alive"! There seems to be a consensus that Penn is our favorite character so far. Today we took our Reading Baseline Test. Soon you will know your reading level so you can read your "Just Right" books.

On Tuesday and Thursday I spend time with Mrs. Hartless doing Math and Science. She is integrating Math & Science as we are learning about Volume and Mass. We do a lot of hands on activities. She sure makes learning fun!!!

Hopefully, I will be able to post some photos tomorrow....

Love you, Mrs. Peck

Welcome Back.....

It was great seeing some old faces and meeting some new ones. I have been trying to put the pictures I took today on my blog, but I am having problems. I have put in a work order to the "Blog Master"...Mr. G.

I can't wait to start writing and reading with the Ry/Ro's... and sit in my rocking chair and read with the Apes and Heroes.

See you tomorrow...

Love you... Mrs. P

It's Almost Time.....

I went to school today to put my room back together. Our wonderful custodians have done a great job! Just about everything is ready....sparkling and shiny! You students have almost two weeks of summer left, but teachers start next Monday. I'm looking forward to seeing my co-teachers and friends...but most of all YOU!

Good luck to my old 5th graders as they enter Middle School. Come back and tell me all about it. Can't wait to see my old 4th graders who are now the "mighty" Beauclerc 5th Graders....are you ready?

Love you, Mrs. P

Madison's Equal Time.....

I think it only fair that I give Madison equal time on my blog... we girls have to stick together.

Madison has become quite a swimmer this summer. She and dad spend most of their weekends together in the pool. However, they do find some time for "Artistic" appreciation at their local Pottery Studio. My all time favorite gifts are the two mugs she made for us for Christmas of 2004! What do you think......

I love these mugs.....

Birthdays...Birthdays...
Birthdays...

There are two important birthdays this week...

Happy Birthday, Chase and Mrs. Hartless.

Chase's birthday went on for 2 days! He spent Friday, his real birthday, with Mimi and Papa. We went to a movie and lunch. then spent the afternoon playing cards. He had his party on Saturday and racked in the presents. After cake and ice cream, he entertained his guests with a "Magic" Show. He wouldn't give away any of his "secrets"! We all had a great time!

Sunday is Mrs. Hartless's birthday. I'm sure there are some celebrations planned with her family. Hope you have a great day, Mrs. Hartless.
