Our 3rd Day at the Grand Canyon...

Our third day we explored the eastern side of the South Rim. I considered this side more vast and colorful. I also took some pictures of a few samples of the rocks that formed the Grand Canyon. It's easy to see why it is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World! I posted a video of just a small part of the canyon... photos just don't give you a feel for the vastness of it's beauty!

Love the formations...

Rain over the North Rim (14 miles away)... never made it over the canyon to the South Rim...

A Raven flying over the canyon... also saw a Condor.. they are endangered...

Some of the plants... Native Americans were innovative and knew how to live off the land...

Can you believe how old these rocks are...

Just a small part of the Grand Canyon... it is 14 miles wide and 1 mile deep... Most of the lodges are on the South Rim. A good part of the North Rim is a Native American reservation. There is a lot of Native American influence in the area.

Mr. P and I had a wonderful vacation.  Will post some pictures of New Mexico and El Paso soon...

Our 2nd day at the Grand Canyon

We spent our second day walking and taking pictures of the western side of the South Rim... We also boarded a tour bus and did the "Sunset Tour". Here are a "FEW" of the pictures we took!

Mr. P used his telephoto lens to get some close-ups of the Colorado River...
If you look closely you can see some rafters on the river...
On our way to catch the bus for the Sunset Tour...

Our awesome tour guide...

Mrs. P took soooo many pictures at the Grand Canyon I will have to post them in groups... These are just from our first day!

We stayed in the National Forest at El Tovar, a lodge on the south rim of the canyon. It was built in 1905 and didn't even have an elevator... but the view from our balcony was awesome!

Here are "some" of the pictures from that first day...

My first view of the Grand Canyon...

Our home for 3 days...

The Colorado River helped form the Canyon...

The "rapids" could be as high as 15 Ft...

Our Lodge...

Actually lived in by Hopi Native Americans...

Filled with beautiful Native American Crafts...
Some of the animals of the Grand Canyon...

Could this be Edgar Allan Poe's "Raven"?

One evening we came home from dinner and found this Elk nibbling on the lodge's front lawn!
